    Commercial Door Technician:

    Location: Tallahassee, FL
    Full-Time


    Dillard Gulf Coast is looking for an experienced Commercial Overhead Door Technician to join our Tallahassee team. We are looking for someone who understands commercial door systems, takes pride in their work, and can safely complete installations, service, and repairs while working closely with our Commercial Foreman, Project Manager, and Operations team.

    This position is ideal for someone who knows the trade, works well in the field, communicates clearly, and understands that getting the job done right includes more than installing the door—it means being prepared, documenting the work, communicating issues early, and taking care of the customer.


    What We Are Looking For


    We want technicians who take ownership of their work. If something isn’t right, we expect you to speak up. If materials are missing, we need to know. If the scope doesn’t match the field conditions, communicate it. If the job is complete, document it properly.

    DGC provides the support of an experienced Operations, Project Management, Sales, Warehouse, and field leadership team. We expect our technicians to work with those teams—not around them—to keep projects moving and our customers informed.


    Responsibilities

    • Install, service, troubleshoot, and repair commercial overhead door systems.
    • Work with sectional doors, rolling steel doors, sheet doors, fire doors, counter doors, and other commercial door systems.
    • Install and service commercial door operators, controls, safety devices, photo eyes, sensing edges, and related equipment.
    • Perform spring changes, cable replacement, track repairs, hardware replacement, operator troubleshooting, and general commercial door repairs.
    • Read work orders, plans, measurements, manufacturer instructions, and job specifications.
    • Verify materials, equipment, and tools before leaving for the jobsite to help prevent unnecessary return trips.
    • Identify field conditions or scope issues that may require additional work or a change order and communicate them immediately.
    • Maintain accurate job notes, photos, time entries, material usage, and job status.
    • Communicate job progress, delays, material needs, and problems with the Commercial Foreman, DGC Project Manager, and Operations team.
    • Coordinate professionally with general contractors, superintendents, electricians, other trades, and customers.
    • Follow OSHA requirements, company safety policies, fall-protection requirements, and proper lift and equipment procedures.
    • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working condition.
    • Assist with training and supporting less-experienced technicians when needed.
    • Help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within the estimated labor hours whenever possible.


    Qualifications

    • Commercial overhead door installation and/or service experience strongly preferred.
    • Experience with sectional, rolling steel, sheet, and commercial operator systems preferred.
    • Strong mechanical and troubleshooting ability.
    • Comfortable working from ladders, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other aerial equipment.
    • Ability to safely lift and handle commercial door materials and equipment.
    • Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a commercial installation crew.
    • Strong communication and documentation skills.
    • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Must be dependable, punctual, and willing to travel to jobs throughout our service area as required.
    • Must be able to pass an extensive background check and any customer or jobsite-specific screening requirements.

    We Are Looking for a Leader 

     

    Dillard Gulf Coast is looking for an experienced Commercial Installation Foreman for our Tallahassee location.

    This is a hands-on leadership position. We are looking for someone who can lead a commercial installation crew, take ownership of a project, and make sure the job is completed safely, correctly, efficiently, and within the hours provided.

    The right person will have strong commercial overhead door experience and know how to lead from the front. You should be comfortable reading plans and shop drawings, laying out a job, directing installers, coordinating with contractors and superintendents, and working closely with the DGC Project Management and Operations teams from job start through completion.

    Communication is a major part of this position. We expect our Foreman to identify problems early, communicate what is needed, and work with the PM and Operations teams to keep projects moving.

    What Are Your Responsibilities?

    • Lead and work alongside a commercial installation crew
    • Install sectional overhead doors, rolling steel doors, fire doors, counter doors, commercial operators, and related equipment
    • Review work orders, plans, shop drawings, specifications, and job scope before beginning work
    • Lay out installations and verify proper measurements, clearances, mounting, alignment, and jobsite conditions
    • Assign daily work and keep crew members productive throughout the day
    • Work closely with the DGC Project Manager and Operations team to coordinate manpower, scheduling, materials, equipment, jobsite readiness, and project progress
    • Coordinate field activities with general contractors, superintendents, customers, and other trades
    • Identify site conditions, scope conflicts, missing materials, electrical issues, or other problems that could affect the installation
    • Communicate jobsite issues immediately to the DGC PM and Operations team so they can be addressed before they impact the project
    • Monitor job hours and progress against the amount of work remaining
    • Recognize potential change-order work and communicate it before performing work outside the original scope
    • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues involving commercial doors and operators
    • Perform minor welding, fabrication, modifications, and field adjustments when necessary
    • Ensure doors and operators are properly installed, adjusted, tested, and operating safely before completion
    • Train and develop less-experienced installers and apprentices
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite
    • Ensure company vehicles, trailers, tools, lifts, and equipment are properly maintained and cared for
    • Complete accurate daily job notes, photos, hours, material usage, and progress documentation
    • Clearly report what was completed, what remains, and what is needed for the next day or return trip
    • Represent Dillard Gulf Coast professionally with customers, contractors, superintendents, and other trades

    What We’re Looking For

    We are looking for someone with strong hands-on experience in commercial overhead door installation.

    We don’t expect every job to go perfectly. We do expect our Foreman to recognize problems early, communicate them, and work with the DGC PM and Operations teams to find a solution and keep the project moving.


    Requirements

    • Significant commercial overhead door installation experience
    • Previous crew-lead, lead installer, or foreman experience preferred
    • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
    • Must be able to pass an extensive background check
    • Strong knowledge of commercial door installation practices
    • Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and work orders
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
    • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and installation equipment

    This is a hands-on field position installing commercial overhead doors, operators, and related equipment on commercial construction and service projects.

    The right person will have experience working with commercial door systems and be comfortable working with hand and power tools, reading work orders and installation drawings, taking accurate measurements, troubleshooting installation issues, and working from ladders and lifts.

    You’ll work as part of a commercial installation crew under the direction of a Foreman or Lead Installer. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship, works safely and efficiently, communicates well with the team, and understands the importance of getting the job done right the first time.

     

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Install sectional overhead doors, rolling steel doors, fire doors, counter doors, commercial operators, and related equipment
    • Work alongside Foremen, Lead Installers, and other crew members to complete commercial installations safely and efficiently
    • Review work orders, installation instructions, plans, shop drawings, and job specifications as directed
    • Measure and verify openings, clearances, mounting locations, track placement, and other installation requirements
    • Install track, hardware, back hangs, supports, springs, operators, controls, and related components
    • Assemble, install, adjust, and test commercial door systems and operators
    • Assist with troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues involving commercial doors and operators
    • Perform minor welding, fabrication, modifications, and field adjustments when qualified and necessary
    • Identify missing materials, incorrect measurements, jobsite conditions, or other issues that could affect the installation and communicate them to the Foreman
